Community
It is central to our mission and values that we have a place at the heart of the local communities where we work.
Nominated Charity
Our charity for 2024 is Abbie’s Fund – Memory Boxes
Abbie’s Fund was set up in memory of Abbie to raise money to provide memory boxes for the Maternity Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary’s Women and Children’s Hospital to give to parents who have also lost babies. By putting together their memory box for Abbie in the days and weeks following her death, her parents have created memory boxes, complete with keepsakes, that can be given to parents at the start of this journey. We hope these boxes help to provide some comfort.
Providing this service helps them achieve something positive and allows Abbie’s memory to live on.
Sponsorships
In 2024, we are sponsoring Broadway Bears. This is a grassroots under 8’s diverse football team.
Andy (Coach) started the team to get the kids out and away from electronic devices and to build strength and resilience. They have trained and participated in friendly matches weekly on a Monday evening to prepare them for the season. They were severely defeated at times but continued to stay strong, happy, and positive.
The club relies on support and sponsorship, so the team, coaches and family who stand at the side of the pitch in the freezing cold weather were all overwhelmed with the support from AKA Case Management to enable them to purchase the winter kits.
Fundraising
Our team members love a challenge and share our passion to support charities and good causes. They love rising to challenges in work – and in their free time, too. In July 2023, we did a sponsored walk to raise funds for Nottingham Hospitals Charity. Staff that came on the day included Demi, Mandy, Liz, Sarah L, Elaine, Claire and most of her family, including two babies and two dogs. Some of our clients also attended and really enjoyed the day.
Andrew (Director) and Dominic (Operations & Finance Officer) participated in a fire walk in April 2023 to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research. You can see them in action here!
Paediatric clinical case manager Mary Gilman organises her own trips volunteering around the world, mostly working with children and their extended families. She also volunteers for a children’s charity for vulnerable children and teenagers.
Clinical case manager Nick Snowden cycled 170 miles across the country from Morecambe to Bridlington in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Another of our North West based case managers, Gill Gorry, recently began fundraising for Headway Lancaster and Morecambe Bay by designing and selling cards on Etsy!
