We were delighted to receive an update on how Broadway Bears are getting on from Elaine Ricketts, Case Manager based in West Midlands. Elaines’ grandson is part of the team, and we can see they have all been very busy over the past few months.
Broadway Bears have gone from strength to strength, developing some unbelievable skills.
January – Unbeaten in the first few weeks of the year, winning 4 drawing 2, beating teams they lost to at the start of the season, winning 4-0 3-1 2-0 and 3-2. The opposing managers commented that they were unrecognisable from when they first started. 👏👏
They organised a sponsored penalty shootout on 22nd January; the mascot ‘Bertie the Badger’ was put through his paces as the players took penalty shots with him in goal! Click here to see them in action.
Poor ‘Bertie the Badger’ he didn’t stand a chance against this team 😀 🐻🐻
February – They signed another player in preparation for moving to 7-a-side next season, as they are currently 5-a-side. They are also playing friendly vs. Broadway under 10s. Although they lost 2-1, it was against players 2-3 years older. The funds raised from the penalty shootout were £350.00, which went on the new kit/AKA branded top for the new signing.
March – Preparation for the team’s first football presentation is underway and is due to be held in May. Following all matches, a parent player and man of the match are selected. I have attached a photo of when my grandson was awarded this. I have also attached a group photo from the penalty shootout event.
Looks like they have accomplished a lot in the first three months of the year. We wish them all the very best for the next season.
