We were very proud of Emma, who was recently promoted to a part-time Assistant Case Manager role. We wanted to find out more about her experience working at AKA Case Management and the aspects of her job that she loves best.
Background and Experience
Emma began her career in care in 2005, focusing on helping people with their day-to-day living needs. Emma then joined AKA Case Management in October 2013, supporting clients with cognitive and mobility difficulties following a traumatic injury. Emma has completed several qualifications pre and post working for AKA, which include:
Emma wanted to progress her career from a support worker working 24-hour shifts, which gradually enabled her to progress to a Team Leader post in 2018 and now as a part-time Assistant Case Manager in 2024.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a Team Leader, Emma oversees her team and ensures they receive the support they need. In her part-time role as an Assistant Case Manager, she balances administrative duties with hands-on support along with coordination of external services.
We asked Emma what she loves best about her role, and she told us that client interaction is significant to her. She enjoys the personal aspect of her work, finding it more rewarding than her previous roles. Emma appreciates the opportunity to spend more time with clients and supports them through any challenges they face during their rehabilitation journey.
Emma is also enjoying the opportunity to attend more events and conferences in her capacity as Assistant Case Manager. This has pushed her out of her comfort zone, but it is helping her to learn more about the sector and build a professional network. It is also undoubtedly building Emma’s confidence in the role and aspects of litigation.
Work Philosophy and Environment
Emma was drawn to AKA Case Management because of the company’s personal and compassionate approach to care, which contrasted with her previous experience, which was more rushed and less personal.
She values the supportive and compassionate team environment at AKA Case Management. She believes the company treats its employees as individuals rather than just numbers, fostering a culture of mutual respect and support which is demonstrated by the no hierarchy approach within the company and that all in senior roles are approachable.
Her approach to work emphasises the importance of providing personalised and rewarding person centred care, ensuring that clients receive the support they need to enhance their quality of life.
Memorable Experiences
Emma enjoys working with all her clients but told us about two that were particularly memorable for her over the past year.
Emma has engaged in various creative projects with one of her clients, such as building a bird table, designing and making a unique item; a waterfall made from Jack Daniel’s bottles. These activities were enjoyable and helped her client achieve his personal goals and improve his skills.
Emma is the Team Leader supporting Yvonne Rogers, whom we wrote about recently in our blog titled Yvonne’s Story. Emma was with her through some of her most difficult times and felt very much part of her family, offering support after her stroke and depression. It was a challenging time, but because of their close relationship and support from the whole team, Yvonne is now happier and more confident, spending time in her craft room, gardening and booking VIP experiences to see her favourite group Il Divo, which is fantastic!
Emma has also supported clients on holidays, offering them experiences they might not have had otherwise. She finds great satisfaction in enhancing individuals’ quality of life. She particularly enjoyed taking one of her clients to the theatre in London for her 60th birthday.
Personal Life and Interests
Emma is sociable and loves spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoys watching and playing football, mainly supporting her daughter’s participation in a grassroots league.
She is passionate about outdoor activities, enjoying fresh air and physical activity whenever possible. Emma also values her holidays and spending quality time with friends.
We are so pleased that Emma loves her new role, we hope to continue supporting her as a valued team member.
